About the Artwork: The title All The Things You Are draws inspiration from the jazz standard made famous by Charlie Parker. In jazz, a "contrafact" is a compositional technique where a new melody is written over an existing harmonic structure, layering fresh ideas onto a familiar foundation. This concept mirrors my creative process: each painting evolves from the ideas in previous works, building on and responding to them in a way that feels both cohesive and innovative—much like the improvisational and interconnected nature of jazz.

Expanding on my earlier Murmuration series, which depicted flocks of birds in motion, this work shifts from visualizing movement to exploring how sound can be translated into abstract visual language. The positioning of each bird is intentional, with its placement corresponding to a specific note or chord, reflecting the structure of the composition and translating melody and harmony into visual form.

Working in acrylic, I build layers of transparency and opacity to echo the way sound waves overlap and interact. In All The Things You Are, sound transitions into something entirely new—an exploration of movement, music, and emotion that transcends boundaries between art forms.
