Wunderkammer Series
Also known as ‘wonder rooms’, Wunderkammer or Cabinets of Curiosities were small collections of extraordinary objects which, like today’s museums, attempted to categorize and tell stories about the wonders and oddities of the natural world. Each piece in my collection has its own unique history and relates to an event in my life such as a visit to a new city, a move, a reunion, a near death experience, a special opening, a time of happiness, a time of sadness, and everything in between; this series is a continuation of my nontraditional self portraits. The items range from dirt, sand, glass, rocks, and rusted WWII chain to dried animal bone, 19th century maps, extracted teeth, hospital bracelets, and moon water. Everything is cast in epoxy resin. The miscellaneous material has been collected from around the world since 2001. This installation represents 20 years, 19 countries, and 5 continents.
