About the Artwork: Into the Fold reflects my time walking the Camino del Norte, a journey where each day unfolded in a familiar yet subtly different way. The rhythm of walking – starting and ending at defined points – offered a comforting structure that contrasted with the more open-ended process of painting, where there is no true ending, only a stopping point.
I wanted this piece to embody that sense of calm repetition, where each step along the Camino brought both sameness and variation. The symmetry in the composition mirrors the dualities I encountered: light and dark, movement and stillness, the known and the unknown. The colors and textures invite a meditative focus, allowing space for quiet reflection. Unlike my other works, where the light often fades downward, here I sought to create balance and symmetry to evoke a sense of serenity.
This painting is as much about the act of walking as it is about the spaces in between – the moments of stillness and contemplation. It is an exploration of how, in both life and art, repetition gives rise to transformation, and even the smallest shifts can offer a quiet space for introspection and peace.
